My name is Melody and I love to connect with other cancer survivors and thrivers. I think that community is everything and I write books and create workbooks to help cancer fighters find hope and peace during their fight. I survived ALL Leukemia and 3 years of chemotherapy cocktails starting at age 6. My childhood cancer experience has shaped every aspect of my adult life and I have dedicated my time back to the cancer community. My husband is an oncologist and together we have 3 sons that keep us constantly busy and constantly laughing.

What is your cancer diagnosis and how was it discovered?

Leukemia ALL, I was 6 years old. My mom was brushing my hair for the 1st day of 1st grade and noticed a bump on my neck. I had been having nose bleeds as well, so I was brought to the City of Hope Medical Center for testing.

What is the biggest piece of advice that you have for newly diagnosed patients?

Celebrate everything. My family started to celebrate every small accomplishment and every milestone when I was diagnosed. We still celebrate the day I went into remission even though it has been 3 decades. My "Celebration of Life" party is every November and we celebrate all of the people that helped us though the hard times. Life can be beautiful after a cancer diagnosis, keep celebrating.

What is the most important thing you learned from your cancer experience?

I've learned that having a positive attitude never hurts in any situation. I have learned that cancer changes you and you have the potential to turn into the best version of yourself.

What was the most difficult aspect of organizing your care/community?

At the time I was diagnosed, not many children were surviving. So it was hard to find a community. This was also before social media could connect people. I was lucky to be from a large and helpful family.

Are there products, services, experiences or physicians that you couldn't live without? Tell us more!

I loved wearing bandanas and eating goldfish crackers, LOL!

My books are:

And an upcoming book for children "Follow Me, Cancer Free"

My foundation is www.lunapeakfoundation.org also on Instagram @lunapeakfoundation
