While blood in the urine is common for people with bladder cancer, cloudy urine is not that common. Cloudy urine could instead be an indicator that something else is wrong. Here are a few of the reasons you might be experiencing changes to the physical properties of urine, including the color and consistency:
Dietary Choices: Some foods can change the physical properties of urine. Check to see if you’ve been eating any of these foods before you panic about the changes you’re experiencing.
Dehydration: When you don’t drink enough water, your pee can get a darker color. By drinking more fluids every day, you can lighten its color.
Microscopic Blood: Microscopic blood in your urine can make it look cloudy. Talk to your doctor if this is something that is normal with the treatments you’re undergoing.
Retrograde Ejaculation: This happens when semen goes back up through the urethra and ends up in the bladder instead of coming out the penis during orgasm. The semen in the urine that’s expelled can make the urine look cloudy.
Infection: UTIs, STIs, vaginitis, and kidney disease can all cause cloudy urine. Talk to your doctor about your other symptoms so you can get the proper testing you need and the right prescription to solve the problem. UTIs are common after some bladder cancer treatments.
Kidney Stones: Kidney stones are “stones” of mineral and salt deposits in your kidney. They are notoriously painful and are passed by peeing them out. This changes the look of your urine.
Prostate Problems: When you have prostate problems, the release of white blood cells can make the urine appear cloudy. Talk to your doctor if you’re experiencing other symptoms of this.
Diabetes: Diabetes can change the consistency and look of your urine. Some other symptoms to worry about: increased hunger, weight loss, fatigue, dryness of the mouth, and itchy skin. Talk to your doctor if you’re experiencing these problems in conjunction with your treatments.
